Smoking fetish, also known as capnolagnia, is the arousal that comes from smoking or from watching someone smoke. Due to the harm that can come from smoking this is one fetish that is often seen as controversial. For years it went unnoticed but thanks to the Internet and various social sites it has grown in popularity. There are many reasons why a person would have a smoking fetish, with nicotine addiction being the biggest one. However it is often said that those with a smoking fetish often relate smoking to fellatio and are thereby attracted to it. There are others who believe the attraction to smoking comes from how dangerous it can be, though this is not a popular theory.
In the fetish scene smoking is often used as a form of degradation. Submissives who are tied up will often have their masters blow smoke on their faces. This is very popular in German fetish porn. More extreme scenes involve ashing or burning out a cigarette on a submissives bare skin.

It is obvious that smoking fetish can be extremely harmful to a person’s health as smoking is proven to cause lung and throat cancer. It is also extremely painful to have a cigarette extinguished on bare skin and this should be done with caution.

First published in 1993, Smoking Signals was the first magazine devoted to smoking fetishism. In 1996 the magazine began publishing a column, “Dark Side,” devoted to the female domination aspect of the fetish. The print edition of the magazine ended in 2006 due to declining sales but Smoking Signals can still be found as an online publication.
